Product description

RPMI 1640 medium is named after the Roswell Park Memorial Institute. RPMI, where it was developed, and 1640 is the medium code name. It is a modified version of McCoy's 5A medium using a bicarbonate buffer system.Originally developed for the suspension or monolayer culture of human leukemia cells, RPMI 1640 medium has since been found to be suitable for the culture of a wide range of mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC-12, PBMC, astrocytes, and cancer cells, and is particularly well suited for the suspension and culture of cancer cells. RPMI 1640 is one of the most widely used culture media.

RPMI 1640 medium is distinguished from other media by the presence of reduced glutathione and a high concentration of vitamins. RPMI 1640 medium contains biotin, vitamin B12 and para-aminobenzoic acid, which are not found in EMEM and DMEM, as well as high concentrations of choline chloride and inositol.

This product contains: D-Glucose, Phenol Red, L-Glutamine.

This product does not contain: sodium pyruvate, HEPES.
